ResponsibilitiesThe Employee Relations Specialist partners with supervisors to effectively handle and address routine employee relations matters and violations including, but not limited to: absenteeism,unsatisfactory job performance, probationary period issues, departmental reorganizations and layoffs to cultivate a fair and just culture; refers complex issues to the Assistant Manager or Director of Employee Relations; interprets and explains human resources policies, procedures and progressive disciplinary steps to supervisors and employees; consults with supervisors on preparing routine employee relations related correspondence such as: documenting verbal warnings, preparing written disciplinary letters and meeting with employees individually or in groups to address employee relations issues, to include in person and virtual meetings, and traveling to various offices in the greater Mobile and Baldwin counties and Mississippi counties; follows up with supervisors on employees with performance deficiencies; knowledgeable of grievance procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers as needed; provides advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, and policies and procedures; tracks and processes unemployment insurance claims; directs development of staffing strategies; assists in conducting personnel related investigations in conjunction with the Assistant Manager or Director of Employee Relations to include interviewing employees, researching and collecting data, preparing reports of findings using Microsoft Word and Excel, and making recommendations to the Assistant Manager or Director of Employee Relations and/or the appropriate administrator; schedules and conducts exit interviews as needed; utilizes the Banner HR/Payroll System, ICIMS and Kronos to access employee or applicant data and extract reports in Excel; regular and prompt attendance; ability to perform the required duties and work the schedule as defined; overtime as needed; other related duties.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in business, human resources or related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and one year of human resources and/or employee relations experience.
