JOB SUMMARY:

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the engineering and design of electrical systems for assigned projects. Specifically, this position will utilize knowledge and skills in the engineering and design of HVAC and plumbing projects. This position will identify and provide solutions to electrical design problems and will initiate conceptual designs subject to the review and approval of the Electrical Engineer Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and Preconstruction Manager.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of the electrical design of the project assigned
  • Report to the team lead electrical engineer regarding scheduling requirements
  • Create construction drawings, perform calculations, and write specifications as required by the team lead electrical engineer
  • Must be familiar with the project's scope of work, engineering hours budget, and construction budget
  • Assist in developing and maintaining drafting, design, and engineering standards
  • Utilize knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete the drawings with minimal supervision
  • Collaborate with project teams to monitor and meet milestones of the project schedule
  • Perform site surveys and equipment assessments
  • Provide project engineering coordination during construction as assigned
  • Serve in a support role on projects as directed by the team lead electrical engineer
  • Assist in developing accurate preliminary design solutions for prospective complex projects within an expedited timeframe
  • Interact with project stakeholders, contractors, and third-party associates to develop and maintain productive working relationships
  • Other tasks as assigned within the scope of this role

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES: None

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of one (1) year electrical engineering experience with a professional engineering firm, or electrical contractor engaged in MEP related or similar work
  • Driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel to worksites, up to 25%

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Understanding of electrical and construction means, and methods associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings and/or similar facilities
  • Proficiency with systems design (i.e. Fire Alarm, TeleCom, Security, etc.)
  • Proficient user of Microsoft office suite; highly proficient use of Excel and other software used in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with project management software (e.g. Procore, Bluebeam Revu)
  • Proficient user of AutoCAD/Revit Design software
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written); must be able to effectively relay information to various audience groups, including, but not customers and perspective customers, managers, leadership, colleagues, and business associates; must be able to prepare professional written communications (emails, documents, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with individuals internal and external to the company and from various backgrounds
  • Highly collaborative and focused on sharing details routinely and consistently with team members
  • Self-managing, able to work autonomously when necessary and effectively integrate with project teammates to meet deadlines and expectations
  • Demonstrate a persistent optimism and the ability to navigate challenges in a way that produces value, exceeds expectations, and promotes company success

  • Must demonstrate professionalism and tact in all interactions
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance

WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Work is performed mostly in office settings. Some outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments, construction sites or public works facilities. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers, and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach or reach above shoulder; talk or hear; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee may occasionally near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Travel may include overnight stays for multiple nights; travel may be by personal vehicle or by commercial airline.
