Magris Talc is Hiring an Environmental Specialist Near Ludlow, VT

This is a Part-Time position.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Manages environmental programs of the Vermont Operations, including ISO 14001 and inactive Vermont locations. Monitors and oversees operational and administrative compliance with environmental regulations, Magris Talc policies and guidelines. This position helps to ensure compliance with meeting and maintaining organizational Environmental, Social Governance (ESG) objectives, Federal and Vermont State requirements as well as Magris Talc safety requirements.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fully supports the location environmental programs by overseeing their implementation, maintenance, and enforcement as well as compliance with corporate programs and policies.
  • Manages the environmental functions for the Ludlow Operations.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of environmental systems.
  • Sampling and testing of surface water on required frequencies.
  • Provides leadership and support of systems integration efforts.
  • Works with the Operations Manager and other onsite resources to assure that all sampling is properly conducted and equipment maintained.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures to be followed by Company and contractor personnel in compliance with Magris Talc standards and programs, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Confers with mine Pit and Plant operations personnel and contractors/consultants to ensure environmental activities are coordinated with those groups to obtain optimum safety, product quality, production, and utilization of human resources as well as equipment.
  • Conducts, or coordinates planned general inspections, meetings, regulatory record keeping audits and integrated system audits. This includes ISO 14001.
  • Assists in the investigation and coordination of corrective action plan for environmental incidents.
  • Oversees the review of capital projects at the facilities for potential environmental/permitting risks.
  • Conducts, or schedules others to conduct, training programs that will increase proficiency in safe and healthy work practices and promote awareness environmental standards and programs.
  • Prepares the reports on environmental activities of programs and submission of applicable documents and statistics to regulatory agencies.
  • Makes presentations to managers and employees, interfaces with community groups, and responds to concerns from managers, employees, regulatory agencies, and the general public.
  • Maintains courteous, professional relationships with company line and staff functions, outside contractors, government agencies, and the general public.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience requirements:

  • 4 years’ experience in Mining or Manufacturing organization required.
  • 3 years’ experience of Environmental experience and/or training required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or related fields preferred.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics:

  • Organizational skills will be necessary for organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing varied activities of the position, conducting meetings, providing training, and overseeing the implementation, maintenance and enforcement of various policies and programs.
  • Analytical and statistical skills are needed to evaluate data, resolve problems, and identify opportunities for improvement and optimization of resources.
  • Computer skills are required to manage, utilize, and maintain data management software packages.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary in order to develop and maintain teamwork within the location as well as be able to work well with both internal and external customers without major conflicts.
  • Leadership skills are needed to provide appropriate direction to employees and assure that interactions with other Staff members as well as hourly employees support common corporate/location goals and objectives.
  • Administrative skills are required to manage paperwork, meet reporting requirements, and oversee management of various systems, policies and records.
  • Self-motivation is necessary to ensure that the work progresses without supervision.
  • Planning skills are needed to ensure that timely completion of programs and objectives satisfy legal and corporate objectives.
  • Financial skills are necessary to oversee and manage expenses of environmental initiatives and projects.
  • Training and team building skills will be needed to conduct or coordinate training activities, improve individual competencies and develop focused group action.
  • Communications skills will be used to interact with employees at all levels of the organization as well as external customers, conduct training, and develop programs, procedures and systems that are usable and understandable in the workplace.
