JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary purpose:

Manager level position providing volumetric and financial accounting support to the company’s natural gas pipeline segment. Position will be responsible for regulatory (FERC, EIA and state agencies) and GAAP reporting related to the gross margin components of the natural gas pipelines. Role requires a strong knowledge of the energy industry, natural gas pipeline operations and natural gas operating and financial systems.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial close of the natural gas pipelines 
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with various departments necessary to gather and exchange accounting related data
  • Support internal and external audits by providing process and accounting explanations, preparing data requests, developing and maintaining appropriate SOX controls
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording and/or approval of journal entries, on a monthly and as needed basis, related to the accounts under the responsibility of the Natural Gas Pipelines Accounting Manager
  • Prepare and/or approve account reconciliations under the responsibility of the Natural Gas Pipelines Accounting Manager
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings in accordance with regulatory guidance. Filings include are not limited to: Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) quarterly and annual Form 2.
  • Prepare and analyze financial results and provide clear explanations into causes of variance and fluctuations in operating results
  • Prepare and present monthly forecast for the company’s natural gas pipelines
  • Prepare and/or review various state commission and tax related reports including but not limited to Traffic Unit and Barrel Mile reports
  • Develop and implement process and policy improvements and efficiencies to the natural gas pipeline operational accounting group
  • Interact with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined
  • Other duties as assigned or requested

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience actively involved in a relevant and related role
  • Understanding the accounting and reporting of transactions involving natural gas pipeline transportation for FERC and GAAP
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of accounting and financial principles
  • Advanced understanding and demonstrated ability with computerized accounting systems, financial modeling, budgets, operating analysis, and management reporting.
  • Familiarity and experience with Quorum software is beneficial but not required. 
  • Previous experience with SOX controls and processes
  • Intermediate to advanced level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Working Conditions: 

  • May be required to carry a cell phone, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
