GenCap Construction is Hiring a Director of Business Development Near Kirkland, WA

The Director of Business Development will lead GenCap's strategic growth by identifying new markets and customers, crafting winning proposals, and overseeing strong client relationships. They will collaborate with various teams and coach other managers to achieve sales and revenue targets. This leadership role requires exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and construction industry experience.

This pivotal role involves collaborating closely with GenCap senior leadership and project executives to craft strategies to secure project contracts. As a leader, and influencer of our culture, they embody initiative, productivity, and positivity, crucial for fostering relationships. Exceptional communication skills are paramount, alongside adaptability, creativity, and integrity. Additionally, they contribute strategic insights to shape GenCap's brand identity and market perception.

This role primarily offers strategic direction and may occasionally step into a Project Executive role to ensure optimal customer experiences when appropriate.

This role reports directly to the President of GenCap.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for market positioning and project pursuits to drive business growth.
  • Identify emerging markets and key customers for focused attention and engagement.
  • Establish performance metrics and monitor progress towards market, customer, sales, and revenue targets.
  • Mentor and guide teams in developing effective positioning strategies and customer project goals.
  • Provide interview and presentation coaching to internal teams.

Business Development:

  • Lead business development activities, including prequalification efforts, customer feedback initiatives, and market trend analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless coordination between business development, pre-construction, estimating, and marketing efforts.
  • Drive customer engagement through targeted strategies, such as industry organizations, boards, trade shows, articles, and speaking opportunities.
  • Negotiate with stakeholders as necessary for successful project outcomes.
  • Perform as Project Executive on key projects requiring high-level customer relationship management and team development.

Marketing and Proposal Development:

  • Collaborate with marketing team to shape brand identity and market positioning through strategic marketing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to produce internal and external communications, marketing materials, and presentations to enhance brand visibility.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to develop marketing strategies and compelling customer-centric content.
  • Work closely with operations, estimating, marketing team, and other stakeholders to submit RFPs/SOQs that align with GenCap’s market position and experience.

Customer Relationship Management:

  • Act as the primary liaison between GenCap and key customers, fostering strong relationships and understanding their needs.
  • Conduct customer service visits throughout projects to ensure commitments are met and issues resolved promptly.
  • Cultivate strategic business partnerships and community relationships to expand GenCap's network and opportunities.

Supervision and Team Leadership:

  • Collaborate with leadership to manage multiple projects, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Build and lead a high-performing business development and marketing team, offering guidance and support to team members.
  • Participate in training opportunities and facilitate performance reviews to foster professional growth.
  • Demonstrates leadership in action through our guiding principles: People First, Think Bigger, Culture of Collaboration, Deliver to Customers and Positive Impact.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 10 years of Business Development experience in construction, real estate, or design/engineering industries.
  • Experience with CRM, reporting and building architecture for project tracking.
  • Proven track record of building relationships and winning projects.
  • Results driven and focused on project success and completion.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Demonstrated sales/influence/negotiation skills.
  • Strong understanding of construction law and business practices.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and independently assess RFP requirements.
