    Description:The assistant principal is a creative, dynamic and thoughtful leader who works to fulfill the mission and vision of Lake Forest School District 67. The assistant principal will be responsible for facilitating an inclusive model for student services that is based upon best practices, the district’s philosophy and the needs of all students. In partnership with the leadership team, the assistant principal will be responsible for ensuring a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate student-centered climate and culture. The assistant principal will collaborate with district level and building level staff to design and implement professional learning opportunities that support student agency; academically, socially and emotionally and meet the individual needs of staff members. The assistant principal will put the needs of students at the center of the decision making process and will model this approach for staff.
    The assistant principal is a strategic thinker and a proactive leader who models strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills, as well as an unwavering commitment and energy to sustain momentum in the district’s journey towards innovative teaching and learning practices. The assistant principal will serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team to implement the District’s strategic plan and Deer Path Middle School’s Improvement Plan.
    The assistant principal will work in partnership with the middle school principal and all staff members. The assistant principal also will work with the district-level leadership team.
    Quallifications:
    Education, Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred)
    • Current Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal Endorsement, required
    • Master Degree in School Administration or related field
    • Teacher Evaluator Qualification, preferred
    • Successful teaching experience at related levels

    • Ability to collaboratively manage change processes
    • Ability to design and manage a data collection plan

    Essential Functions

    • Supervise specific school departments and teams as assigned
    • Build an environment of trust through communication and transparency about decisions and how they are made
    • Provide high-level, purposeful, and engaging professional learning for teachers and staff to meet teaching and learning and department of student service goals
    • Assist in the general administration of the school
    • Assist in planning budgetary resources for the programs
    • Use systems data to lead the improvement of the department to positively impact students and staff
    • Monitor test results and provide assistance to improve student performance
    • Model effective instructional strategies
    • Assist in establishing long term and short term goals for implementation plans and district growth
    • Assist in implementing key learning principles that are essential to innovative learning environments
    • Plan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals
    • Provide leadership in establishing and implementing educational goals and objectives for the district and in evaluating the accomplishment of these goals and objectives
    • Coordinate and evaluate the curriculum in accordance with the district curriculum policy
    • Assist in the direction, supervision, and evaluation of the building instructional program
    • Chair and / or co-chair committees as requested by the Executive Director of Student Services
    • Ensure and oversee quality and compliance of IEP and Special Education legal requirements
    • Assist with master scheduling for special education students and staff to ensure IEP requirements are met and provide the director with all projection data
    • Be an active participant, and facilitate when necessary, in all Student Support Team meetings
    • Attend and participate or delegate district participation in 8th grade IEP meetings Lake Forest High School
    • Effectively communicate with all parents regarding the needs of all students, and comply with communication protocols for special education student needs
    SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND IMPROVEMENT
    • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning
    • Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with students, staff and parents
    • Assist the principal in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented collaborative learning community
    • Assist with the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan as requested by the principal
    • Promote the health, safety, and welfare of each student
    STAFF PERSONNEL
    • Assist in the determination of staff needs
    • Assist in working with individual staff needs
    • Evaluate personnel and assist in the determination of goals to improve performance
    • Prepare formal evaluations as directed by Board policy and administrative regulations
    • Coordinate teacher, mentorship inservices
    • Assist in the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new staff members
    • Assist the principal in the supervision and evaluation of classroom instruction
    • Assist the principal with paraprofessional evaluations
    • Assist the prinicpal with creation and implementation of the paraprofessional schedules building wide
    PUPIL PERSONNEL
    • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods
    • Facilitate a student behavior management system based upon the philosophy of the district
    • Facilitate meetings regarding student and school challenges and opportunities with parents, students, and staff
    • Participate in the creation of extra and co-curricular activities in the school
    • Supervise extra and co-curricular activities in the school
    • Assist in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance to ensure the District is in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and Board Policy
    PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Participate in decision making, planning and evaluation at the district level
    • Maintain confidentiality of school matters
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals
    • Collaborate with peers to enhance the work culture and support instructional planning
    • Maintain and continually develop an in-depth knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the principles of site-based management and its techniques
    • Work harmoniously and effectively with teachers, students, parents and district administrators to accomplishing the goals of the position
    • Review best practices literature, conduct applied research and present at conferences
    • Model high standards of professionalism in all situations
    • Maintain visibility, accessibility and approachability and represent the school with passion, dignity and pride in the school community
    • Stay current regarding state and national standards, benchmarks, and frameworks for upper elementary and middle school curriculum
    • Stay current regarding state and national standards, benchmarks and frameworks for social-emotional learning
    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel materials. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    Work Environment
