    08/02/2024 Lake Forest School District 67 is seeking a Long-Term Preferred Building Substitute at Cherokee Elementary School for Fall 2024.
    Description: The Preferred Building Substitute serves in the absence of a teacher or teaching assistant to provide students with appropriate supervision, learning activities, and experiences, designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.
    Essential Functions:
    • Assume all responsibilities of, and duties assigned to, the absent teacher or teaching assistant
    • Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher that fulfill the requirements of the District’s curriculum program
    • Ensure that lessons reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles, and use appropriate instructional strategies and materials
    • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as need for special education students according to guidelines established in the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
    • Assist with educational activities
    • Develop rapport with students and be a positive role model
    • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students
    • Manage student behavior in accordance with District policies and procedures
    • Supervise non-classroom duties as assigned
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
    • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required
    • Report all student injuries, accidents and illnesses to the building administration
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff personal information
    • Uphold computer technology acceptable use policies
    • Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications:
    Education, Experience, and Licensure
    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License, required
    • Prior experience teaching a wide range of grade levels, preferred
    Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
    • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and classroom management
    • Ability to develop quick rapport with students, teachers, and administrators
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, and student information systems
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively – written and verbal
    • Maintain professional appearance
    • Follow all Board of Education policies
    Physical Demands & Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel materials. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
    In the work environment, the employee is regularly exposed to video display and regularly works in office environmental conditions. The employee frequently works in the evenings or on weekends. The employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee will have contact with the public which requires appropriate demeanor and apparel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with regular exposure to loud environments such as: school hallways, cafeterias, and assemblies.
