    DESCRIPTION:
    Lake Forest High School has a part-time (0.2) Social Studies (World History & Geography) teacher opening for the 2024-25 school year. We are seeking an individual who establishes a strong culture of learning and engages students in challenging content through well-designed learning tasks and activities. This role demands a professional who not only has an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, but also a high level of instructional skill and a commitment to every student’s academic growth and achievement.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education, Experience and Licensure:
    • Professional Educator License with a Social Science-History or Social Science-Geography endorsement.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.
    • Demonstrate exceptional content knowledge and pedagogical skill in history and the social sciences, with the ability to adapt instruction to suit a diverse range of student backgrounds and interests.
    • Employ effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with students, faculty, and parents, to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
    • Facilitate a classroom environment that encourages student collaboration and discourse, enhancing the learning experience for all.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and refine course learning objectives, common assessments, and curricula.
    • Participate in team-based approaches to student remediation and the continuous enhancement of instructional practices.
    • Partner with Special Education and Student Services to meet the needs of identified students.
    • Use technology proficiently and ethically for planning, collaboration, instruction, and assessment.
    Competencies:
    • Strong foundational knowledge in Social Studies.
    • Skills in fostering a classroom environment in which the lives and needs of all students are validated, recognized, and appreciated.
    • Skills in differentiating instruction to meet the varied needs and interests of students.
    • Skills in mentoring students, particularly those with multilingual backgrounds, to develop literacies and a sense of community within the classroom.
    • Use of collaboration and professional development toward the improvement of teaching practices and outcomes for students.
    Preferred Characteristics:
    • Proven track record of successfully collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development, the alignment curriculum with standards, and the implementation of effective instructional practices.
    • A plan for continued professional growth and development in areas critical to Social Studies Scholarship including critical reading, analytical writing, evidenced-based writing, and executive functioning.
