Position Overview

The Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD) is seeking to hire a position to perform complex specialized para-professional human resource duties involved in processing position / employee transactions and group insurance transactions.

This position oversees the performance evaluation process; maintains coverage of the Personnel Office in the absence of other staff;

keyboards personnel related forms and provides relief to switchboard; monitors students in the ISD mail room; and oversees the background check procedures at ISD.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists the Human Resources Director with preparing and processing the full range of personnel and insurance transactions including promotions, voluntary reductions, appointments, job assignments, separations, and leaves of absences.
  • Enrolls new employees in the Group Insurance Program.
  • Oversees the performance evaluation process.
  • Keyboards correspondence.
  • Reviews ISD Personnel database for any changes or deletions.
  • Monitors students assigned to the mail room engaged in routing, sorting and delivery of mail.
  • Serves as switchboard relief.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college OR satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm.
  • Requires ability to communicate in sign language at the survivor plus level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI).

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
