The Willkie House is a youth-serving nonprofit that operates an HHS-licensed afterschool and summer program for low-income urban youth. The Willkie House is one of the oldest historically Black community-based organizations in Iowa but now serves youth of all races.

This hire will be instrumental in helping to create strategies, processes, and structure where they do not exist. This is an excellent position for a candidate interested in working in multiple areas of nonprofit management. A successful candidate must be detail-oriented with an eye for quality and very skilled at managing a to-do list.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising:

• Develop and implement a strategy to promote giving, especially from individual donors
• Document and acknowledge monetary and in-kind donations
• Apply for, manage, and report on grants

Financials:

• Negotiate and pay bills
• Process and deposit checks
• Prepare monthly financial documentation
• Prepare requested financial documentation for audit

Marketing and Communications:

• Develop and implement social media strategy
• Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies
• Create marketing and communications materials
• Manage website

Facilities:

• Oversee relationship with cleaning company
• Purchase cleaning supplies
• Develop and implement a maintenance strategy
• Vet and schedule contractors for building repairs and upgrades
• Serve in a lead role in a seven-figure building renovation project
• Supervise AARP team members with facility-related roles, as applicable
• Manage corporate volunteer days

Building Rentals:

• Manage building rentals and identify staffing for such rentals
• Develop a strategy to increase rentals of the Willkie House

Other:

• Provide meaningful feedback on key business decisions of the organization
• Develop policies to meet regulations
• Periodically assist in the youth program
• Contribute towards a culture of excellence and of constant improvement
• Comply with regulations, policies, and procedures
• Other duties as assigned

• Good time management skills and very good at managing a to-do list
• Able to pass a background check and complete a DHS-required physical examination

Preferred Capabilities and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Experience in a youth-serving nonprofit
• Strongly preferred: Licensed driver with a good driving record (must be able to be insured by our insurance); willingness to obtain a chauffeur’s license
• Ability to lift 20-30 lbs.

Hours: 10 AM to 6 PM; work outside those hours or on the weekends may periodically be necessary

Salary: $40,000-$45,000 annually
