U.S. Department of the Treasury is Hiring an Investigator Near Denver, CO

Duties
This position is located at Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Assistant Administrator - Field Operations - Trade Investigations Division.
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Conduct various investigations involving enforced collection, firearms and ammunition excise tax (FAET) matters, and alcohol and tobacco revenue matters.
  • Provide technical expertise concerning compliance investigative techniques for complex investigations to other investigators, civil or criminal; U.S. Attorneys; State prosecutors; and top Bureau officials in the field and Headquarters.
  • Manage projects involving studies of processes, problems and initiatives which concern Bureau programs and associated activities in other Federal, State, local and international enforcement and regulatory agencies and organizations.
  • Perform complex studies and/or directs and coordinates task forces or working groups on significant issues which impact on functions and programs of national and international significance.

Specialized Experience RequirementsFor the GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Performing civil or criminal investigations or inspections
ORYou may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR an LL.M., if related.
For the GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Performing investigative, inspective or compliance-related work that includes analyzing data, discerning facts, drawing conclusions, then writing reports to support these conclusions.
ORYou may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:
A master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, OR an LL.B. or J.D., if related.
For the GS-9 or GS-11: You may qualify with a combination of experience and education for either grade. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

  • Undergo an income tax verification
  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
