About the Position

As part of the Payroll Services team, the Payroll Coordinator provides fiscal administrative support and serves as the main contact for payroll questions from university department staff and supervisors. This position maintains extensive knowledge of the web time-entry system to remain compliant with timesheet procedures and ensures compliance of state and federal reporting for garnishments, payroll direct deposits, and leave cash outs. This position plays a key role in processing the semi-monthly payroll for all employees and is responsible for the payment and reconciliation of multiple vendors. In addition, this position is responsible for providing payroll training to new employees, payroll approvers and newly overtime-eligible employees.

The State HR classification for this position is HR Consultant Assistant 2.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Three years of office experience including one year of payroll and/or fiscal record keeping experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience in customer service-related work and the ability to work under pressure, prioritize deadlines, and handle responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Strong technical skills with demonstrated ability utilizing technology to work efficiently, including proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook or equivalent email software.
  • Proven ability to perform mathematical calculations for payroll adjustments such as retroactive payments and overpayments.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complicated and technical issues effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong customer service skills, including demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization and to apply appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-year or 4-year college degree
  • Three years of payroll and/or fiscal recordkeeping experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Experience with Banner or other HRIS/Payroll system.

Salary
$3,607 - $4,817/month depending on experience and qualifications.
