Duties

As a Special Assistant, your typical work assignments may include:
  • Ensuring coordination of administrative and managerial policies of DEA and ensures the policies reflect efficient and effective use of time and resources.
  • Providing administrative program direction to various subordinate offices, deputy assistant administrators and their staff.
  • Maintaining liaison and coordination with business operations personnel in Headquarters and in the field.
  • Coordinating and facilitating the flow of information between the Deputy Assistant Administrator subordinate offices, Headquarters, and Field Divisions.
  • Planning and coordinating conferences and official functions to be attended by top management officials across the Agency.

QualificationsApplicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:DutiesOne year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties:
  • Coordinating administrative and managerial policies of an agency ensuring the policies reflect efficient and effective use of time and resources; 2) Providing administrative program direction to various subordinate sections, chiefs, their staff; 3) Developing correspondence to senior management that communicates the intent on key issues regarding an agency's mission and operations; 4) Representing assigned programs in internal and external communications efforts to ensure that critical programs/projects are properly successfully presented to the proper audiences.
SkillsSpecialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience for this position includes:Competencies: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competencies in the following areas:

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F).Education
