Stanford University Careers is Hiring a Social Science Research Professional 3 Near Stanford, CA

Applications are invited for a Social Science Research Professional 3 position in the Center for Dissemination and Implementation (CDI). CDI consists of three national centers and numerous addiction and mental health services implementation at national, health system, state, county and community levels. CDI’s mission is to advance the science of implementation and improve equitable access to the best treatments available for the people who need them the most. This position is an excellent opportunity to advance skills in research and scholarship, join a friendly and productive team, and contribute to the greater good of public health. Candidates are sought for an immediate start.

A successful candidate will have: an advanced degree in a relevant social science, public health or related field; ability to take initiative, solve problems, and handle substantial responsibility; prior experience leading and supporting large teams; prior experience leading and supporting research trials; experience with IRBs; effectively coordinate and facilitate meetings with a range of individuals; demonstrated professionalism interacting with key stakeholders; strong oral and written communication skills; experience with database management and statistical packages such as R, STATA, SPSS, etc.; substantial experience with standard software packages including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to successfully juggle and prioritize among multiple projects; background in mental health, substance use, other health conditions; and background or strong interest in dissemination and implementation research. Duties include:

  • Assist principal investigators with designing experiments constituting a phase of a research project for which precedents are few; conduct experiments that may involve coordinating a complex experimental protocol; contribute to grant development and assist to proposal submission.
  • Independently identify/modify standard procedures based on judgment concerning the general goals of a project; select approaches in developing, testing, and evaluating new methods.
  • Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams (in academia, across different faculties or schools, and in industry, across different functions of the business).
  • Co-author all or sections of a report for publication or professional presentation with the work being reviewed by the principal investigator or faculty.
  • Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator to design a research approach of a project and/or integrate results of the entire project.
  • Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
  • Formally supervise and train new staff or students, including hiring, performance management, and related duties, in addition to instruction on techniques and consultation on project work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Background in addiction health services research and implementation science preferred.
Experience coordinating multisite research trials.
Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative methods.
Strong project management skills and demonstrated experience. 
Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
Track record of scholarly publications and oral/poster presentations at conferences. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Graduate degree in an applicable social science and/or public health, including epidemiology, related field and five years of applicable experience, within a content area of health services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

· Expert level knowledge and skills in health services related research 

· Capacity to interact with geographically dispersed partners at all levels from national leaders to front line behavioral health care workers.

· General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.

· Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.

· Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

· Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to work with human study participants.

· Supervisory skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

· Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

· Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.

· Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls.

The expected pay range for this position is $83,000 - $106,000 per annum.
