Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Healths mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values
A resource for unit/area emergencies, disasters or other emergent situations by responding, facilitating communication and resources with management/administrative support; this may include responding to codes or other identified high acuity events
Functions as a clinical expert, clinical consultant and resource to nursing unit staff to facilitate consistent quality patient care
Coordinates assignment, adjusting unit staffing and scheduling based on established standards and census; facilitates optimal utilization of resources to meet patient needs by ensuring employees have the tools and information to function efficiently
Coordinates unit level quality management and performance improvement activities with direction; initiates processes to resolve clinical problems to include PI projects with direction
Functions as a charge nurse and shift coordinator with the ability to problem-solve unit and area level operations issues, collaborating with management as defined
Performs all functions of Staff Nurse II, providing professional nursing care to patients; functions independently as a practitioner, demonstrating superior problem-solving decision-making and critical thinking skills
Provides direct patient care as needed; is a technical expert and resource, or able to provide access to expert care as needed following organizational/departmental policy and procedure
Monitors and evaluates care and practice for self and others, collects data to ensure effectiveness of interventions
Facilitates efficient patient throughput, in collaboration with staffing and schedule coordination
Supports consistent regulatory readiness for unit/area via rounding, counseling/coaching and monitoring; is aware of standards and regulations applicable to clinical unit
Participates in the evaluation of staff by providing input, supporting development and coaching and counseling of staff
Coordinates special programs within area of expertise as delegated
Management of daily staffing and requests for supplemental staff
Coordination and management of employee work schedules, including vacations and trade days, in collaboration with the manager
Management and coordination of PI audits and equipment checks
Responds to all code 99 and RRT events
Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse
Graduation from a nationally accredited college or university
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Additional certifications and specialty skills related to designated area of practice
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in designated area as a Registered Nurse
One year of charge nurse/resource nurse experience
BSN preferred but not required.
Advanced skills in:
o Clinical nursing practice, use of equipment/instruments relevant to unit/area care, according to policies, procedures and standards
o Effective interpersonal communication and team skills which include listening, interviewing
o Techniques with patients, families and staff
o Assessment, reassessment and monitoring of patients
o Concise, accurate, legible documentation
o Problem solving techniques, critical thinking and decision-making skills
Knowledge and skills necessary to:
o Provide care appropriate to meet the age and cultural needs of the patients served
o Demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span
o Assess data/interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to age specific needs as well as clinical indications
o Effectively collaborate with the Manger and CNS by frequently providing information about status of unit
Knowledge of:
o Fundamental nursing theories and current clinical concepts of care
o Disease processes and related treatments/care/medications
o Departmental/hospital policies/protocol
o Infection control procedures and protocols
o Treatments/medications
o Diagnostic/therapeutic procedures and interventions
Ability to:
