Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Coding Specialist to join our team. As a Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately assigning medical codes to diagnoses and procedures for billing and reimbursement purposes. Your expertise in medical coding and knowledge of various coding systems will be crucial in ensuring accurate and compliant coding practices.
Responsibilities:
- Review medical records and documentation to accurately assign appropriate medical codes
- Utilize coding systems such as ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG to assign codes for diagnoses, procedures, and treatments
- Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with applicable coding guidelines and regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or obtain additional information as needed
- Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with medical billing and collections processes as necessary
- Conduct audits to identify coding errors or discrepancies and implement corrective actions
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical coding preferred
- Proven experience as a Coding Specialist or similar role in a medical office or healthcare setting
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
- Proficiency in using coding systems such as ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG
- Familiarity with medical records documentation requirements
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding assignments
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers
