CAF America is Hiring a Staff Acountant Near Alexandria, VA

Job DescriptionJob Title: Staff Accountant
Department: Finance and Accounting
Reports To: Assistant Director of Finance
FLSA Status: EXEMPT
Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for financial and administrative support to CAF America and at times, CAF Canada. This role will support processes related to cash receipts, donor contributions and fees, accounts receivable, accounts payable and ensuring transactions are properly coded and entered correctly into our systems of record. The Staff Accountant coordinates with other departments at CAF America on contribution and accounts receivable activity.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Support the ongoing Finance functions of the organization by ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and timely while working with other members of the Finance Team to ensure all processing and reporting deadlines are consistently and timely met.
  • Perform weekly deposits of payments received, ensuring they are recorded accurately in the system.
  • Reconcile credit card transaction activity and submit to the Assistant Director of Finance for review and approval.
  • Receive and organize all contribution-related documentation (i.e., gift forms), confirming if any contributions need additional approval and ensuring that all documentation and donor due diligence (vetting) is underway/communicated to donor services and compliance teams prior to posting contributions.
  • Review client invoices, ensuring they are accurate, delivered to the correct client representative and paid within terms.
  • Manage the tracking of outstanding receivables and reporting on their status and ensuring timely payment through client follow-ups. Reports to include an aging of receivables outstanding
  • Recording invoice payments accurately and reconciling accounts receivable summary to the balance sheet value at the end of each month.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations at the end of each month
  • Support Operations team members with weekly deposits
  • Support the Finance team as a liaison to CAF America staff, responding to requests and answering questions.
  • Assist with annual financial audit requirements and completion of the IRS form 990

  • Superior attention to detail and ability to accurately navigate large and detailed databases.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; ability to adjust communications according to the audience.

  • User Level of Authority
    • iPhiCore or other integrated ERP systems
    • Salesforce
    • Bank of America Online Banking
    • Bill.com
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required.
    • Advanced keyboard skills
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in accounting, business or finance; 1 year of accounting and/or finance experience is preferred.
  • Non-profit industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with automated Finance systems is preferred.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work and prioritize in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of confidential data and information is required.
