The New York City Council is the law-making body of the City of New York. It is comprised of 51 members from 51 different Council Districts throughout the five boroughs. The Council monitors the operation and performance of city agencies, makes land use decisions, and has sole responsibility for approving the city's budget. It also legislates on a wide range of other subjects. The Council is an equal partner with the Mayor in the governing of New York City.
The Office of Council Member Julie Won (District 26, Sunnyside, Woodside, Astoria, Long Island City) is looking for a Community Services Coordinator. Duties can involve a variety of tasks and projects. These tasks include, but are not limited to, researching and preparing material for various projects, conducting policy analysis, writing correspondence, answering telephones, conducting community outreach, event organizing, attending meetings and reporting updates to staff.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Airtable, and Google Drive is required. Ability to speak another language in addition to English is preferred. The following languages are spoken in the community:
Community Services Coordinators are required to work a minimum of 35 hours per week. This is a full-time, on-site role as a Community Services Coordinator located in Long Island City, NY. As a Community Services Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating and implementing community programs, services, and events. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including community organizations, government agencies, and residents, to ensure the delivery of effective community services. Additionally, you will assist in planning and coordinating community engagement initiatives and serve as a point of contact for community inquiries and concerns.
Community Services Coordinator:
A Community Services Coordinator provides the opportunity to develop basic constituent services skills, such as case management, organizing, and outreach. Through this role, interns learn community needs, are embedded into the community, and can see how constituent services can provide an insight into legislation. Training and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
In addition to the regular assignments outlined above, Community Services Coordinators who commit more hours or do an exemplary job will have the option of proposing a special project. These projects range from organizing an event and graphic design of flyers to policy proposals and drafting legislation to be introduced and that might become a law.
