DescriptionThe Senior Analytical and Research Scientist will s upport the business vision to be a leading supplier of quality tea, coffee , and botanical ingredients in beverage production by performing laboratory testing as follows:
  • Specialized analyses – such as HPLC, L C/MS, GC/MS , and spectrophotometric assays
  • Basic Routine analyses – such as pH, color , turbidity , moisture , density, protein, and particle size analyses .
Based i n our global technical laboratory at the Quonset business park in North Kingstown , Rhode Island , t he role also involves working with the US and global team of scientists and process engineers to provide technical insight into processes, problem-solving and product development, as well as working with Applications and Quality teams to develop a customer-preferred product with consistently superior quality , in a fast-paced environment.
The incumbent is expected to conduct analyses in support of these, as well as develop and validate methods, create standard operating protocols (SOPs) . Additionally, the role entails conduct ing routine laboratory exercises (such as calibrations, housekeeping and GLP).
k Ey Responsibilities
  • Develop new analytical methods, improve existing analytical methods, and introduce innovative analytical methods for tea, coffee, and botanicals ,
  • Perform specialized and routine analyses according to procedure s,
  • Capture data according to requirements, analyze the data , create reports and communicate these accordingly,
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teams , across our Group and in various functions to share learnings and provide technical insight into projects ,
  • Conduct basic and processing research to improve existing tea and coffee processing and introduce new technologies to the business,
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, according to GLP , conducting calibrations and verification routines.
Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Chemistry, Food Chemistry or related field
  • Previous experience in analytical chemistry including HPLC, LC/MS, and GC/MS is required .
  • Beverage research experience is preferred .
Skills & Experience
  • 5 years of food industry experience (Beverage industry preferred)
  • 5 years laboratory experience and GLP
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in scientific report writing

  • Curious and loves learning new things
Work Environment / Physical Demands
  • Laboratory and Plant environment
  • Handling of some hazardous chemicals
  • Willing to travel as required
