City of Republic is Hiring a Police Services Representative Near Republic, MO

*The entire range of pay for this position is posted. Typical starting pay will be at the beginning of the range, depending on qualifications.*

Primary Purpose

This position serves as a non-sworn member, performing a variety of general and complex support tasks for the Police Department that requires considerable judgment in interpreting and applying law, policies, and procedures. Inputs and maintains security of records and prepares analytical reports for staff.

Supervision

Under the direct supervision of the Police Major, and the general supervision of the Police Chief.

  1. Ensures consistent delivery of excellent customer service to citizens, visitors, and City employees including but not limited to answering telephone calls, bonding people out of jail, and processing repossession paperwork.
  2. Researches and responds to inquiries from other law enforcement agencies and departments, which may include background checks on applicants, reports on subjects with other cases from other jurisdictions, etc. Consults with officers and/or supervisors as needed regarding discrepancies in report information.
  3. Assists public in obtaining reports via records requests, and general information in a timely manner and in accordance with all applicable laws.
  4. Enters, and maintains information in the Missouri Uniformed Law Enforcement (MULES) system. Researches information for updates or discrepancies as necessary. Ensures that vehicles, articles, and missing person entries are made in the MULES system promptly and removed when item/person is located.
  5. Compiles, types, records, and files a wide variety of police records, reports, and materials accordingly, including but not limited to complaints, declarations, booking information, restraining orders, fingerprint cards, warrants, citations, and crime and/or traffic reports. Processes reports by sorting and checking for missing reports, entering on computer, filing, and making copies. Assists with the records archiving function of the Department.
  6. Promptly and accurately prepares case packets to be transferred to the appropriate agency for prosecution. Conducts criminal history checks as needed to process case files and other requests. Determines the nature of the incident, calmly and effectively. This may require an employee to use originality in asking appropriate questions while keeping with departmental policy and procedures.
  7. Collects statistical data and reviews case files for compliance and accuracy with state and federal guidelines and reports to National Incident Based Reporting.
  8. Promptly and accurately processes citations and Offense Cycle Number (OCN) and forwards them to the prosecutor’s office.
  9. Receives various phone calls from individuals, attorneys, family members, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, etc. and answers questions or refers the caller to the appropriate person, office, or department.
  10. Accurately maintains and updates active arrest warrants, confirms warrants and immediately removes recalled/served arrest warrants. Ensures active arrest warrants/hard file packets are removed and the warrant is removed out of all systems such as Niche RMS as necessary.
  11. Assists in the cataloging, maintenance and dissemination of photographic records, fingerprints, and other identification records to state and federal agencies for case files and reports.On occasion may be responsible for fingerprinting and training of automated fingerprint system for operator certification, as required by departmental assignment.
  12. Testifies in court when required.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Important Duties 

  1. Attends in-service training sessions or other training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor.
  2. May assist with logging recovered property and evidence into the property room, depending on assignment.
  3. Maintains appropriate supplies for the assigned area.
  4. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.

Education & Experience

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have three (3) years' experience in a high public contact position or formal education in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or related area.

-OR-

One (1) year experience in an area such as law enforcement records, administrative support, communications, or crime analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must be able to classify and properly distribute police reports by being able to analyze and appropriately interpret applicable laws and departmental guidelines; Must have knowledge of accurate grammar, spelling, punctuation, and Standard English usage; Must be able to type/keyboard accurately at a rate of 30 words per minute; Must have a working knowledge of modern office procedures, ability to operate copiers, FAX machines, etc. Must have advanced computer knowledge; Must be able to learn and follow established procedures; Must be able to learn to operate various telephone and computer equipment; Must be able to read, understand, explain and apply a variety of information, often of a complex nature, including applicable laws, department procedures, records, reports, etc.; Must be able to utilize sound judgment; Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality; Must be able to handle a large volume of public contact; Must be able to utilize appropriate computer software applications; Must be able to follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; Must be able to memorize and retain information; Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; Must have good time management skills; Must have good cognitive and analytical skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations, quickly assess or judge situations, and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver's License.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in the State of Missouri as a Notary Public as required by departmental assignment.
  • Must obtain and maintain full state certification as a MULES terminal operator and approved for CJIs access, as required by departmental assignment.

Miscellaneous Requirements

  • May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. 
  • Subject to emergency call-in.
  • Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
  • May be subject to random substance abuse testing.

Physical Demands

Performs bending and reaching to both ground level and overhead; lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 25 pounds; must be able sit for long periods of time; must possess the ability to utilize a computer keyboard and/or mouse.

Work Environment

Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in an office environment, possible exposure to disease or potentially violent situations. Assignments to assist Evidence Technicians includes possible exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes, and odors when disposing of property at City Landfill.
