1. Patrols a designated area to preserve law and order. Issue warnings or citations to violators of city and state regulations and laws as needed, which often requires independent and decisive judgment.
2. Responds to in-progress or recent situations to restore or maintain order and to coordinate the gathering of information and applicable evidence.
3. Arrests, guards, and/or transports individuals as instructed or needed.
4. Prepares and presents clear, detailed, and accurate reports and other police related documents, forms, and memorandums as required.
5. Allocates patrol time to identify and solve business and residential problems by applying proven problem-solving techniques.
6. Demonstrates creativity regarding police related issues.
7. Monitors and directs traffic and crowd control activities and intervenes as necessary to preserve the peace.
8. Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes and traffic incidents; interviews witnesses, collects and preserves evidence.
9. Administers emergency medical aid as needed, based on First Aid/CPR certifications obtained.
10. Appears in court and testifies when required.
11. Safely and properly operates department owned tools and equipment.
12. Conducts job-related education programs requiring presentations to various groups, schools, radio, and television audiences.
13. May be assigned as a field training officer or special assignments.
14. Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public. Presents themselves in a professional manner. Fosters cooperation.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Important Duties

1. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
2. Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.
3. Attends and participates in-service training sessions or other training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.

Education & Experience

Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Must be knowledgeable in the principles, procedures, and equipment involved in police work; Knowledgeable in federal, state, and local laws and community oriented policing techniques; Maintains the highest level of confidentiality as required; Must be able to interpret and enforce laws, policy, procedure, and ordinances; Computer experience with some knowledge of Microsoft Applications; Must be able to operate a computer including word processing, spreadsheet and database police department report writing software programs; 10-key calculator; must operate phone, two-factor authentication, copy machine, fax machine; Must be able to memorize, retain, and recall various information; Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; Must have good cognitive and analytical skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations, quickly assess or judge situations, follow directions, and make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility; Knowledgeable of the geography of the Republic area and the location of various buildings and landmarks; Must understand and exercise proper use of self-defense tactics and use of force.

Special Requirements

• Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License.
• Must possess a valid Missouri Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) License.
• Must be certified in First Aid/CPR either upon hire or within first six (6) months of employment.
• Must successfully complete annual firearms certification within first month of starting.
• Must not be the Respondent on a Full Order of Protection.

Miscellaneous Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Will be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. 
• Subject to emergency call-in.
• Must meet the annual physical requirements as established by the department.
• Must successfully meet standards as determined by the department psychologist.
• Will be subject to random substance abuse testing.

Physical Demands

Vision defect cannot exceed 20/100 and must be corrected to 20/30 in both eyes; Must be able to distinguish primary colors; Must pass a post-offer medical examination including a hearing test; Must be able to reach, hold and grip; Must have lateral mobility; Must possess the manual dexterity to use a computer; Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds for a distance of at least 50 feet; Must be able to drag and/or push and pull up to 165 pounds for a distance of at least 50 feet; Must be able to walk, sit, or stand for prolonged periods; Must be able to work at heights above 100 ft or higher as needed; Must be able to crawl, run, jump, twist, climb, bend, squat, and kneel as needed.

Work Environment

May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Will be exposed to life threatening conditions associated with firefighting, emergency medical situations, and hazardous chemicals. Exposure may be but is not limited to dust or pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical or mechanical hazards, poor visibility and ventilation, extreme noise and working in cramped spaces.
