COLUMBUS MUSEUM OF ART is Hiring a SALES ASSOCIATE Near Columbus, OH

Job Title: Museum Store Sales Associate

Department: Museum Store

Reports To: Museum Store Manager

FLSA Status: non-exempt (part-time)

Work schedule: Variable including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

Prepared/Revised Date: 05/16/2024 ______________________________________________________________________

Please note that this position is a bargaining unit position represented by a labor union and a collective bargaining agreement.

Job Summary: Offer exemplary front-line customer service to all museum visitors, including offering product knowledge and information that relates sales items to the museum's mission. Maintain aesthetically pleasing displays and ensure proper maintenance of cash-handling procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that customers feel welcome and engaged.
  • Facilitate sales process, create, and maintain environment that ensures excellent customer service for visitors and internal customers. 
  • Create an exciting, enjoyable shopping environment (well stocked, beautifully merchandised, organized, and clean).
  • Assist customers in the selection and purchase of merchandise using an outgoing, friendly manner. 
  • Using a proactive approach, ensure that customers are aware of exhibition-related merchandise, special sales, and/or events. 
  • Assist customers with special needs and special orders.
  • Ensure merchandise is well-stocked and displayed as advantageously as possible. 
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of merchandise, including artists' information, price points, and general stock levels including that of merchandise on the sales floor as well as in back stock. 
  • Process phone and web orders for payment and shipping including CMA catalogues and general shop merchandise.
  • Keep all areas of shop clean and well-organized (work with Facilities Team as needed).
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of all special programs and exhibitions at the museum.
  • Assist with receiving incoming merchandise and pricing of merchandise.
  • Notify management of the need for merchandise re-orders as well as customer requests that cannot currently be fulfilled.
  • Understand and facilitate end-of-day closing procedures.
  • Assist with CMA Store website to update and maintain inventories, photograph product if needed, and consistently post on our social media.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Museum Store Manager or Assistant Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate an enthusiastic, outgoing, friendly, motivated, and proactive demeanor.
  • Ability to work without close supervision, handle pressure situations and multiple priorities, meet deadlines and show a willingness to work irregular hours.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong relationship building; strong interpersonal skills.

Performance Standards:

  • Work effectively with CMA staff members, departments, and management teams.
  • Perform accurate and timely completion of all assigned duties and tasks pertaining to areas of responsibility.
  • Professional and mature attitude and demeanor

Physical Demands: Staff members must be able to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to touch, handle or feel. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must be able to talk and hear. Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment: Environment is quiet (light music) with occasional moderate noise from higher traffic and events.
