Job Title: Director of Career Development Center

Department: Student Affairs

Reports To: Vice President of Student Affairs

FLSA: Exempt

DESCRIPTION/GOALS:

Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs, directs the operation, policy-making, and development of career services for students and alumni. The Director of Career Services provides leadership and direction for a comprehensive career planning office with a mission to support the university’s students in making informed decisions regarding undergraduate and post graduate plans by providing resources and opportunities to encourage career exploration and self- assessment. The director will manage the operational, budget and personnel functions of the career services office.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Provide individual or group career and academic counseling, resume reviews, interview prep, etc.

Administer and interpret vocational interest inventories using Focus2.

Provide career-related seminars for interested students, clubs/teams/organizations, or in the classroom.

Plans, coordinates, and conducts all university events that prepare students for employment and provide employment opportunities.

Maintain up-to-date career resources library.

Produce and direct the all-majors career expo each fall and spring semester, education fair each spring semester and attend the accounting fair each spring semester.

Develops strong, ongoing relationships with area employers that hire recent university graduates. Promote career services’ employment-related services to this constituency.

Coordinate on-campus recruitment.

Conduct the First Destination Survey for graduates each semester.

Report graduation/completion rate and employment rate for specified majors to Workforce Oklahoma.

Maintains and provides access to information concerning on-campus student employment and full and part-time jobs off campus via Handshake.

Assist students, faculty, staff and employers with utilizing Handshake.

Promote office and services to students, alumni, faculty/staff and employers through a variety of marketing efforts.

Participate in professional development activities to ensure professional growth and knowledge needed to provide effective leadership and program development.

Maintain membership and active involvement in professional organizations, such as National Association of College and Employers, NACE.

Supervise 1-2 part-time student employees.

Prepare office budget, oversee expenditures maintaining fiscal responsibility, prepare reports, and collect and analyze data relevant to career planning of students and alumni.

Seek out on-campus and off-campus job opportunities to promote to students.

Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.

Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.

Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible.

Must be able to lift more than 20-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking.

Can be exposed to a variety of weather conditions for periods of time.

Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.

Other duties as assigned by Vice President of Student Affairs or designee.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required: Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university; recruiting experience in higher education and an awareness of East Central academic and student programs is highly beneficial. Master’s degree preferred.

Must be able to interact effectively with people, possess excellent communication skills and leadership ability, and be dedicated to the NACE principles and practices of career planning, employment and recruitment.

Valid OK driver’s license

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Good communication skills; telephone, group presentations. Must be able to work independently. Enthusiastic, punctual, and dependable. Ability to write and speak well. Should have a knowledge of career counseling and placement.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to orally communicate in fluent English

Salary: $40,000 - $44,000
