  • GENERAL SUMMARY
      • The Director of Clinical Education ensures the integration of clinical education, aligning programs with clinical practice governance and inter-professional collaboration to provide highly reliable, evidence-based, patient and family center care in all New London Hospital settings, and a consistent, supportive professional environment for all New London Hospital clinical team members.
      • Responsible for ensuring consistent, high quality nursing education program content and delivery. Leads and manages a team of clinical educators and support staff to achieve department goals. Role models enthusiasm for continuous learning and commitment to excellence in patient center care in a complex and changing environment. Serves as an exemplar of engagement and professionalism.
      • Actively participates in inter-professional practice, education, regulatory, quality improvement and mentor the participation of other clinical leaders in such work. Contributes to and manages towards goals identified in the New London Hospital strategic plans. Fosters a culture of continuous learning, engagement and professionalism to achieve New London Hospital’s mission. 
      • The Director of Clinical Education is crucial to the recruitment and retention of competent clinical staff, patient and staff satisfaction, quality improvement, and measured in part, by its impact on the quality of patient care.
  • FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Represents clinical practice, patient/family centered care, and regulatory perspective as needed in operational planning and systems and technology implementation.
      • Responsible for the direction of the clinical education department staff. Supports and empower staff to embrace the mission, vision and values of the organization.
      • Is visible, accessible, and committed to communicating effectively with staff.
      • Acts as liaison for training programs with organizations, schools, i.e., students from different schools of healthcare and nursing. Builds and maintains collegial relations with faculty and staff from affiliated schools to encourage collaboration and resolution when conflict over student placement occur.
      • Collaborates with the department leaders to establish a vision, strategic plan, goals, metrics and programs for the department in alignment with the strategic plan, mission, vision and values of New London Hospital.
      • Collaborates with local clinical leadership and educators in all aspects of clinical staff development
      • Monitors new-hire clinical orientation, New London Hospital Nurse Residency Program, and other retention tools to provide the most appropriate clinical on-boarding. Develops, coordinates, conducts and evaluates clinical education programs, seminars, conferences, etc.
      • Assesses, develops, plans, implements and evaluates education and training programs to meet the initial orientation, precepting, rollout, and ongoing clinical competency needs of clinical staff. Ensures such programs are evidence–based, have clear objectives and are compliant with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
      • Leads a team of clinical educators and support staff (as applicable) to achieve department goals. Fosters and role models a high level of individual initiative and accountability for demonstration of current clinical expertise in assigned areas and participation in quality improvement and practice governance including policy and procedure development, review, and dissemination.
      • Manages the hiring process for assigned staff members. Evaluates the performance of assigned staff members, including coaching and performance management processes.
      • Establishes a highly collaborative and mutually effective working relationship with clinical and operational departments to design and implement organizational change
      • Align with New London Hospital’s quality department to ensure reporting of strategic quality initiatives. Actively engage clinical staff and leaders in quality improvement and clinical research projects as applicable to various care settings.
      • Identifies and manages towards performance indicators that are outcomes focused, evidence-based and add value to New London Hospital. Practices financial stewardship in budgeting and program development and evaluation.
      • Ensures that clinical education, practice governance and professional development programs promote employee safety and environment of care safety standards.
      • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with persons of other cultures or backgrounds. Participates in peer review process and the maintenance of a just culture perspective as applicable.
      • Maintains designated committee and workgroup assignments and actively participates to affect improvement in patient and organizational outcomes.
      • Mentors developing staff and leaders in educational initiatives and goals. Promotes a vision of clinical leadership within the clinical staff members of the unit/department that includes clinical, leadership, research, and education components of the respective role(s).
      • Foster an environment of continual professional growth by reviewing current trends, new technology, new teaching methodologies, seminars, conferences, and professional societies updates.
      • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS 
    • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
        • Experience in program design, curriculum development, presentation skills, teaching, and organizational implementation.
        • Demonstrated ability to function independently.
        • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing with individuals and groups at various levels and various disciplines desired.
    • Experience
      • 5 years of experience in the clinical setting with evidence of leadership, operations, project management, and consultative skills required.
    • Education
      • Master’s degree in Nursing required.
      • Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility
