POSITION TITLE:Grade 6 Social Studies Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

To establish an effective rapport with staff and students; to motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in the area of social studies.

SALARY RANGE:

Commensurate with experience per teachers’ contract

REPORTS TO:

Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teaches skills and knowledge in social studies instruction in Grade 6, utilizing the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive
• classroom environment.
• Evaluates each pupil’s progress toward mastery of the standards, frameworks, and skills through various measures of performance to include, but not be limited to, tests, quizzes, presentations and projects.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self selected professional growth activities.
• Complies with district policies and administrative rules and directives.
• Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
• Implements all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Performs such other duties as the district may from time to time assign.

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND PERSONAL QUALITIES:

• Possess strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem-solving, collegiality, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide mentoring/coaching
• Leadership style that encourages teamwork and personal responsibility
• Strong understanding of the MA Curriculum Frameworks
• Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Minimum five (5) years teaching experience
• MA license pertinent to position
• Master’s Degree
• SEI endorsed
