Middle School Special Education - Language Based Position: Job Description

Galvin Middle School will be offering in the 2019/2020 school year an inclusive Language Based Learning Program for students who require such a program. The special educator is responsible for the delivery of grade-level curriculum, differentiating instruction, case management, and administering special education assessments. Familiarity with standard-based education and mastery of technology skills are required. Prior experience with middle school English instruction is preferred. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with students, parents, colleagues and community members. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.

Duties

• Consult with team and develop an instructional model and practices that support students with language based learning disabilities across academic settings
• Complete informal and formal diagnostic assessments and make recommendations for IEP programming and scheduling based on results
• Serve as liaison for students on middle school academic team
• Lead annual review meetings, developing IEPs in conjunction with teams that address specific needs of students.
• Coordinate schedule with service providers to ensure compliance with service delivery grids across settings
• Collect, compile and interpret data for progress monitoring and adjusting instructional practice
• Communicate regularly with parents, reporting progress and discussing areas of struggle
• Ensure compliance with all aspects of student IEPs
• Incorporate assistive technology to support the needs of LBLD students across settings in accessing curriculum
• Collaborate with other Special Education teachers, providing support and consult on LBLD students across the building
• Collaborate and consult with Reading specialist and SLP to best support LBLD students on caseload
• Promote maximum integration of LBLD students

Qualifications

• Licenced MA Special Education teacher, Moderate Special Needs
• Training/Certification in systematic reading and writing programs such as Wilson, OG, LIPS, Project Read, Great Leaps, Empower
• Minimum 3 years teaching/ Special Ed experience
• Working knowledge of LBLD interventions
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
