Instructional Classroom Support Technician 1 (STEM / Math Center)


SALARY:
$19.85 - $21.26/ hour for 12-16 hours per week

DESCRIPTION:

Edmonds College is seeking a Permanent Part-Time Instructional Classroom Support Technician 1 for the Math Center. The Instructional Tech 1 supports all pre-college math students and instructors . This position encourages and bolsters student learning by cultivating a safe environment for students to ask questions about pre-college math coursework and providing guidance on students¿ academic journey. The Instructional Classroom Support Tech 1s indirectly supports teaching through building study skills and utilizing institutional resources. In the Math Center Instructional Classroom Support Tech 1s facilitate community by being a point of contact and positive role model in the student¿s field, and connecting them with other individuals and opportunities on campus. Specifically, responsibilities include but are not limited to providing guidance and tutor students in their Pre-College Math course. Proctor and monitor students during testing to protect the integrity of the exams . Maintain a professional relationship with students and instructors. This position works a flexible schedule of 12 - 16 hours per week between the hours of 9am - 3pm Monday through Friday and / or 9am - 1pm on Saturday and / or 2 evenings a week 6pm - 8:10pm (MW or TTh).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds (e.g. ethnic, cultural, socio-economic levels, persons with disabilities, English language learners, religion, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Not a current student at Edmonds College
  • AA degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 3.0-3.5 GPA in math courses
  • 1 - 2 years experience tutoring basic math to intermediate algebra for Pre-Calculus OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to contribute to a team environment and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Willing to learn to use google sheets / google docs, gmail, proctoring software, and learning management systems (ie: xyzhomework, wamap, canvas, etc)
  • Must have excellent social and communication skills to be able to resolve conflict in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to work the hours between 9am - 3pm Monday - Friday and / or Saturday 9am - 1pm and / or evenings 6pm - 8pm twice a week
  • Must be approachable, friendly, kind and welcoming.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 3.0 overall GPA
  • Previous math tutoring experience at a community college


PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an educational setting and may include activities related to sitting/walking and direct communication with students. Flexibility is given to employees and some hybrid opportunities are available.


WORK SCHEDULE:

Permanent part time: 12-16 hours per week, Fall through Summer quarter.


COMPENSATION:

Salary is Range 39, $19.85 - $21.26/hr for 12-16 hours per week, with progressive increases to $25.20.
