What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Simulation Manager position at X4 Engineering?
We are seeking an Environmental Simulation Lab Manager to lead and develop our environmental and reliability testing capability.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing advanced environmental test facilities, ensuring compliance to military and industry standards, and supporting qualification and reliability programmes across complex electronic and electromechanical products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations of the Environmental Simulation Laboratory
- Manage and maintain environmental test equipment including:
HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing)
HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening)
“Shake & Bake” combined vibration and thermal testing
Thermal cycling and climatic testing
Vibration and mechanical shock testing
- Produce high-quality technical reports and customer-facing documentation
- Lead root cause investigations and failure analysis activities
- Manage laboratory scheduling, health & safety, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Mentor and develop laboratory technicians and test engineers
About You
You will bring strong practical experience in environmental and reliability testing, ideally gained within aerospace, defence, automotive, electronics, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience managing or supervising an environmental test laboratory
- Strong working knowledge of HALT, HASS, vibration, thermal, and combined environment testing
- Experience operating electrodynamic shaker systems and climatic chambers
- Familiarity with MIL-STD environmental test methods
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and qualification requirements
- Strong technical reporting and stakeholder communication skills
- Experience with data acquisition and test monitoring systems
Desirable
- Experience with reliability engineering methodologies
- Knowledge of ESS, FMEA, and failure analysis techniques
- Previous experience supporting defence or aerospace programmes
