Duties
- Assist in implementing personalized treatment plans designed by occupational therapists to promote functional independence.
- Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including grooming, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
- Help facilitate patient transport within facilities or to external appointments while ensuring safety through manual handling techniques.
- Document care activities accurately and thoroughly in compliance with healthcare standards and care plans.
- Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals—including physicians, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and caregivers—to optimize patient outcomes.
- Contribute to care documentation updates, progress notes, and discharge summaries to ensure seamless communication across the care team.
Experience
- Prior experience working in acute care settings such as hospitals or emergency departments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated background in outpatient clinics or skilled nursing facilities with exposure to inpatient and outpatient therapy services.
- Hands-on experience assisting clients with disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, or geriatrics is essential.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical imaging enhances your ability to support treatment plans effectively.
- Familiarity with home health environments and occupational health settings broadens your versatility as a COTA.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and caregivers ensures compassionate support and education throughout the therapy process.
Florida Background Screening Requirement:
This position requires a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Clearinghouse in accordance with Florida law. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background screening.
