Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director (Grades 7–12) serves as a key leader in the administration, supervision, and development of the secondary athletic program. This position partners with and reports to the Secondary Athletic Director to oversee all aspects of interscholastic athletics, including middle school and high school programs, daily operations, compliance, staffing, and event management.
In a Christ-centered school environment, this role also promotes athletics as a ministry platform for spiritual growth, discipleship, and character development. The Assistant Athletic Director ensures operational excellence while fostering a culture that reflects integrity, sportsmanship, and faith-based values.
General Responsibilities
- Assist in the overall leadership, organization, and supervision of grades 7–12 athletic programs
- Support the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and long-term planning
- Promote alignment and continuity between middle school and high school athletics
- Represent the school/district at conference, league, district, and state meetings as assigned
- Ensure all athletic programs operate in compliance with school policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws (including Title IX)
Spiritual Leadership
- Model an authentic and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
- Promote integration of faith and athletics across all programs
- Encourage spiritual growth and character development among student-athletes and coaches
- Reinforce athletics as a tool for discipleship and life development
- Apply biblical principles in leadership, relationships, and conflict resolution
Athletic Program Administration
- Assist in the development and management of the athletic department budget
- Coordinate scheduling of games, practices, transportation, and officials
- Maintain accurate records, schedules, and documentation of athletic activities
- Work with MSHSAA and recording/documenting as necessary
- Oversee inventory, purchasing, and maintenance of equipment, uniforms, and supplies
- Ensure student-athlete eligibility (academics, physicals, required documentation)
- Monitor and enforce the Athletic Code of Conduct, this will include student discipline and grade checks.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to all governing body regulations, including league, conference, district, and state requirements
- Maintain compliance with federal and state laws related to athletics, safety, and student participation
- Oversee proper handling, documentation, and reporting of injuries and incidents
- Maintain and ensure First Aid/CPR certification requirements among staff
Game & Event Management
- Serve as administrator on duty for home athletic events
- Coordinate game-day operations including staffing, supervision, and facility setup
- Arrange support personnel (officials, security, trainers, ticketing, concessions, custodial services, emergency services)
- Oversee ancillary event components (press box, halftime programs, special recognitions, etc.)
- Assist with tournaments, senior nights, awards ceremonies, and large-scale athletic events
Coaching Staff Leadership & Development
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining qualified coaching staff
- Provide ongoing supervision, support, and evaluation of coaches
- Promote professional development and alignment within the athletic program
- Foster strong communication and collaboration among coaching staff
Communication & Community Relations
- Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community members
- Develop and distribute materials to promote athletic programs and events (digital and print)
- Maintain relationships with media for reporting schedules, scores, and achievements
- Collaborate with school leadership, admissions, and development teams to enhance program visibility
- Build positive relationships that reflect the mission and values of the school/district
Operational Duties
- Coordinate transportation for athletic events
- Supervise facilities to ensure readiness and safety for practices and competitions
- Manage ticket sales, admissions, and concessions in coordination with event staff
- Schedule and oversee use of athletic facilities
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work in office, school, and athletic environments (indoor and outdoor) year-round
- Frequent attendance at evening and weekend events
- Ability to actively supervise and engage in athletic settings
- Travel required for competitions, meetings, and events

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Previous experience in athletic administration and/or coaching preferred
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience
- Ability to travel to events and meetings
- CDL Preferred or ability to obtain
Salary : $50,000 - $60,000
