Survey Manager

Job Summary
The Survey Manager is a licensed survey professional responsible for overseeing survey operations, directing field crews, and managing surveying activities for engineering and construction projects. This role provides leadership for survey personnel, manages projects and client relationships, ensures quality and compliance of survey deliverables, and supports business development efforts. Responsibilities may include field surveying, utility locating, proposal preparation, contract management, data collection, mapping, and project oversight. Travel may be required depending on project locations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Manage and supervise survey field crews, technical staff, and support personnel.
- Recruit, train, mentor, evaluate, and develop team members.
- Coordinate staffing and workload assignments across projects.
- Ensure compliance with company standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and professional oversight of survey activities.
Project Management
- Prepare and review project proposals, scopes, and contracts.
- Participate in project planning, kickoff meetings, and client consultations.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables.
- Review survey data, plans, and reports for accuracy and quality.
- Sign and seal professional survey documents when required by licensure.
Business Development
- Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Identify opportunities for growth and market expansion.
- Participate in industry events, professional organizations, and client presentations.
- Support proposal efforts and project interviews.
Surveying & Field Operations
- Supervise field crews and provide training on survey methods and best practices.
- Read and interpret site plans, boundary surveys, construction plans, profiles, and related documents.
- Oversee collection of field data including topographic surveys, control surveys, leveling, traversing, and construction staking.
- Perform or oversee utility locating and mapping activities when required.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and calibration of survey equipment.
- Implement quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation, field records, and project files.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate degree, bachelor's degree, certificate, or equivalent experience in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), Land Surveyor (LS), Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM), or equivalent licensure in at least one state.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Strong proficiency with survey equipment, total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, and data collectors.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, legal descriptions, records, and engineering plans.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass applicable pre-employment screenings.
Preferred
- Licensure in multiplestates.
- Experience with survey data collection and mapping software.
- Utility mapping, utility locating, or subsurface utility engineering experience.
- Construction, infrastructure, or utility industry experience.
Salary : $90,000 - $150,000
