Soni Resources is partnering with a Manufacturing client near Woodbridge Township, NJ, on the search for a Controller.
This role will lead the company’s accounting function and oversee all financial reporting activities. This individual will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial information, strengthening internal processes, and supporting leadership with timely, actionable insights. The position requires someone who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities, and partnering across the business—particularly with operations in a manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting function, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger operations
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines (targeting a 3-day month-end close)
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure reliable financial reporting
- Own the integrity of the general ledger and ensure proper account reconciliation and structure
- Prepare and deliver timely financial reports and post-close analytics to leadership
- Act as the internal expert on cost accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and overhead absorption
- Partner with operations to monitor manufacturing costs and provide insight into cost control opportunities
- Manage inventory accounting in line with company policies, including complex, multi-layered product structures
- Support budgeting and forecasting efforts in collaboration with the Vice President of Finance and cross-functional stakeholders
- Assist with audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors as needed
- Handle daily banking activities, including oversight of cash management processes such as positive pay
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, streamline workflows, and increase efficiency without sacrificing accuracy
- Provide guidance on technical accounting matters such as revenue recognition and lease accounting
- Serve as a key user of the ERP system (Epicor), including training and support for internal teams
- Collaborate with external or affiliated accounting teams to ensure consistency in reporting and reconciliations
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff; address performance issues and support ongoing professional growth
- Establish team goals, track progress, and drive accountability across the function
- Partner with the VP of Finance on special projects and strategic initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 5–12 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong foundation in full-cycle accounting
- Prior experience managing or supervising accounting individuals
- Background in manufacturing environments, with direct exposure to cost accounting, inventory, and standard costing
- Strong understanding of general ledger structure and financial reporting processes
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, complex formulas) are essential
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and operate effectively under pressure
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization
- Self-starter who thrives in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
Preferred Experience:
- CPA and/or Master’s degree
- Experience with Epicor (or similar ERP systems); exposure to Epicor Kinetic is a plus
- Familiarity with data tools such as Power BI or SQL
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and influence cross-functional teams
Compensation: $160,000 - $180,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
