Job Description
General Functions
Provides graphic design, production, and visual communications support for exhibitions, educational materials, and public programs at the Orange County Regional History Center. This position develops and produces high-quality exhibition graphics and interpretive materials in collaboration with curators, exhibit staff, educators, and community partners. Responsibilities include visual concept development, print production, fabrication support, installation assistance, and coordination of graphic standards for exhibition projects.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Curator of Exhibitions and is reviewed through meetings, conferences, reports, and results achieved.
Representative Duties / Assignments
Duties may vary based on assignment.
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited institution in Graphic Design, Exhibition Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or a closely related field and three years of professional experience in graphic design, exhibition graphics, or visual communications. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above education and experience.
Extensive knowledge of graphic design principles, typography, print production methods, large-format graphics, photography, and exhibit production techniques.
Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.

Representative Duties / Assignments
Duties may vary based on assignment.
- Designs high-quality graphic materials to support History Center exhibitions, educational initiatives, and public programs.
- Collaborates with the Curator of Exhibitions and exhibit team to develop concept designs and visual approaches for exhibition projects.
- Produces exhibition graphic elements and educational materials including large-format graphics, labels, panels, wayfinding, handouts, and other supplemental materials.
- Completes print production tasks including printing, mounting, trimming, contour cutting, weeding, and preparing graphic elements for installation.
- Assists with fabrication and installation of exhibitions in collaboration with exhibit and collections team members.
- Provides art direction, graphic design expertise, and production guidance to exhibition staff and project collaborators.
- Consults with internal departments, external partners, and vendors regarding graphic design, photography, printing, and exhibit production needs and recommends appropriate solutions.
- Evaluates printing and production needs utilizing in-house equipment or outside vendors; obtains quotes and coordinates production schedules as necessary.
- Ensures exhibition graphics maintain consistency with institutional standards, accessibility requirements, and project objectives.
- Performs occasional copy editing and proofreading of exhibition text and educational materials.
- Maintains software, equipment, and supplies for graphic production systems as needed; advises team members on software updates and workflow improvements.
- Maintains organized digital archives of exhibition graphics, templates, photographs, and production files.
- Trains staff, interns, and volunteers on graphic production techniques, equipment usage, and installation procedures related to exhibition graphics.
- Assists with photography, image preparation, and digital asset management for exhibition and program use.
- Performs other related work as required.
