The Orange County Emergency Services Department has an opening for a Community Paramedic with the Post Overdose Response Team. This position is a permanent time-limited position.
The work involves the responsibility of serving as a member of the Post Overdose Response Team (PORT);a standard of care in providing field-based medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and connecting individuals in need with the services that they require to ensure survival and well-being. This is accomplished by providing short term MOUD treatment to individuals experiencing opioid use disorder at the location of EMS incidents,andfromtheavenuesofpriorEMSincidents,HospitalEmergencyDepartment encounters, local inter-departmental referrals, and the public at large.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Bureau Chief of Community Health and Safety with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding client needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency AND two (2) years of work experience as a Certified Paramedic.
Possession of North Carolina Paramedic certification, or Paramedic certification from another state or National Registry Paramedic (NRP) certification to qualify for the legal recognition process.
Meets all Paramedic credential requirements. Must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses, and seminars both on and off duty to maintain annual paramedic certification, as required by the State of North Carolina.
Must obtain a CIT certification within one year of hire.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a pre- employment drug testing, an SBI background check and Fitness for Duty assessment. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
