What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nursing Director position at Orange County Government?
The work is responsible for performing professional, administrative, and supervisory work in planning, organizing, and implementing the operations and activities of the Personal Health Services Division of the Health Department.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Health Director with some leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions public health needs and requests. Supervision is a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in nursing AND five (5) years of Public Health nursing experience including three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity;OR
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing which includes a Public Health nursing rotation AND seven (7) years of Public Health nursing experience including three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity; OR
Graduation from a school of professional nursing and ten (10) years of professional nursing experience, five (5) of which must have been in Public Health including three (3) years of experience in a supervisory capacity; OR
Anequivalentcombinationoftrainingandexperienceasdefinedabove.Ahigherdegree does not substitute for work experience.
Master’s degree in nursing preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSValid, current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Driver License valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of an SBI background check and pre-employment drug testing. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Health Director.
Salary : $82,102 - $108,316
