The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and executing the full payroll process for employees across multiple locations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. This role serves as a key resource for payroll-related inquiries, process improvement initiatives, and compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. The ideal candidate combines deep technical payroll expertise with strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Location: Wilmington, DE (100% onsite)
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Process end-to-end payroll for all employees, including salaried, hourly, and contract staff, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Review and verify payroll data, including timesheets, deductions, benefits, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain and update payroll records, databases, and reports to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve payroll-related issues in a timely manner.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, reports, and year-end documentation (W-2s, 1099s, etc.).
- Partner with HR and Finance teams on payroll-related projects, audits, and system upgrades.
- Train and mentor junior payroll staff, providing guidance on payroll processes and best practices.
- Continuously evaluate payroll processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field preferred.
- 5 years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- Expertise in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, UKG, or similar).
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, wage laws, and compliance requirements.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with employees and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in multi-state or global payroll processing is a plus.
