Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager (Civil Construction)

Location: Greensboro, NC (Relocation Available)

We are partnering with a growing civil and environmental construction firm on a confidential search for a Senior Estimator / Estimating Manager. This is a high-impact, leadership role overseeing estimating for specialized projects including landfills, environmental remediation, and stream/wetland restoration.

This organization has a strong reputation in the municipal and environmental space and is experiencing continued growth, creating the need for a senior leader to step in and own the estimating function.

Position Overview

This individual will lead the estimating process end-to-end, from reviewing specifications and defining scope to building detailed cost models and supporting project execution. The role also includes team leadership, mentoring a junior estimator while partnering closely with operations and ownership.

Projects typically range from $500K to $10M, with a sweet spot in the $1M–$5M range

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full estimating lifecycle including takeoffs, scope development, pricing, and proposal submission
• Analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project requirements
• Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and timelines
• Conduct site visits to assess conditions and support accurate bidding
• Collaborate with operations, subcontractors, and vendors to gather pricing and execution input
• Present and defend estimates to internal stakeholders and clients
• Support project execution and cost control post-award
• Mentor and oversee a junior estimator on the team

Qualifications

• 10 years of experience in construction estimating
• Strong background in civil construction and site development (required)
• Experience with environmental projects, landfills, wetlands, or stream restoration highly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• Strong proficiency in Excel-based estimating (critical)
• Experience with tools such as Bluebeam, Agtek, HeavyJob, AutoCAD preferred
• Strong understanding of construction math (volumes, grading, takeoffs, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $150K – $200K (flexible, no true cap for the right candidate)
• Discretionary bonus potential
