Director of Accounting
LHH is partnering with a large public manufacturing company seeking a Director of Accounting to join its finance leadership team.
This highly visible leadership role will oversee accounting review, financial reporting, technical accounting support, and control-related activities across the North American business. Reporting into senior finance leadership, the Director of Accounting will lead a sizable team, including senior manager-level leaders, while serving as a key partner to a decentralized accounting organization. This position offers the opportunity to influence accounting strategy, strengthen financial controls, and support a complex global business within a well-established public company environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the accounting review and financial reporting processes for the North American business
• Provide technical accounting guidance and support on complex accounting matters across multiple business units
• Oversee balance sheet reviews, account reconciliations, and overall financial statement integrity
• Partner with business unit and regional accounting teams to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization
• Support revenue accounting, financial reporting, and accounting policy implementation initiatives
• Drive SOX compliance activities and maintain a strong internal control environment
• Lead, develop, and mentor a large accounting organization, including senior manager-level staff
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting quality, and operational effectiveness across the accounting function
Qualifications
• Must be located in the Chicago area or able to reliably commute to the office on a hybrid schedule
• CPA strongly preferred
• 10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience
• Experience within large public company environments required
• Prior experience leading a centralized accounting, reporting, or controllership function required
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise, including U.S. GAAP knowledge
• Extensive experience with SOX compliance, internal controls, and audit support activities
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred
• Proven leadership experience managing large teams and developing accounting leaders
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and partner across all levels of the organization

• Base salary: $200,000 - $220,000
• Target bonus: 20%
