Title: Corporate Controller

Work Schedule: Full-time

Employment Type: Permanent / Direct-Hire

Job Location Type: Hybrid

This San Francisco Bay Area innovator is actively interviewing for a new Corporate Controller to lead a growing accounting function. This is the kind of seat where your fingerprints will show everywhere, from building out SOX design and SEC Reporting, to scaling systems to achieve global reach. If you are a CPA who loves creating order from complexity, and someone wants to build a modern accounting department, please read on.

You will join a technology-driven organization operating in an advanced manufacturing and engineering environment, supporting products that enable a wide range of commercial and industrial applications. As the newly created Corporate Controller, you will help build an IPO-ready finance function by strengthening Corporate Accounting, elevating Financial Accounting discipline, and scaling processes designed to meet public-market expectations.

The Corporate Controller reports directly to the CFO, works closely with a peer VP of Finance, and serves as the central accounting leader across Legal, HR, FP&A, and Business Operations, while planning and developing an expanding accounting team that may include Accounting Manager, SEC Reporting, Technical Accounting, and core close and operational accounting resources.

Life in the San Francisco Bay Area offers access to an area known for sunshine, open-space trails, and quick drives to the coast. The region blends strong economic opportunity with diverse neighborhoods, excellent schools, and higher-education options that attract ambitious professionals and families alike, making it easy for a Corporate Controller to plant roots and grow. Between live music, food scenes, festivals, and year-round recreation, it is a place where you can build a career without giving up quality of life.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead an end‑to‑end close cycle across monthly, quarterly, and annual timelines, with an emphasis on consistency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain strong accounting policies aligned with applicable standards, including preparation of documentation and analyses that support audit readiness.
  • Design, implement, and enhance internal control frameworks to support compliance, risk management, and scalable financial operations.
  • Develop regulatory and external reporting processes, including selection and adoption of tools that enable efficient, well‑controlled filings.
  • Build and oversee technical accounting capabilities to address complex transactions, policy interpretation, and emerging guidance.
  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and professional advisors, coordinating audits, reviews, and readiness initiatives.
  • Partner with operational leaders to ensure accounting practices reflect underlying business activity, including cost structure, inventory flows, and operational transactions.
  • Support major systems initiatives and ERP enhancements, helping translate accounting and reporting needs into effective process and system design.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting team, fostering skill development, accountability, and future leadership capacity.
  • Coordinate financial close and reporting activities across geographies and time zones to support timely, consolidated results.
  • Collaborate closely with finance, tax, legal, and business partners to provide accounting guidance on contracts, initiatives, and strategic transactions.
  • Contribute to transaction readiness activities, including diligence support, integration planning, and alignment with leadership on financial strategy.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • CPA or Certified Public Accountant credentials that support credibility and technical depth.
  • Progressive experience across Corporate Accounting and Financial Accounting functions, with exposure to senior‑level leadership responsibilities.
  • Background in public‑company environments or organizations preparing for increased regulatory and investor scrutiny.
  • Hands‑on involvement in designing and implementing internal controls and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience building or improving external reporting and disclosure processes, ideally supported by modern reporting platforms.
  • Strong grounding in technical accounting, including complex transactions and policy interpretation.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, technology, or product‑driven environments where operational accounting considerations matter.
  • Experience supporting ERP upgrades or finance systems modernization initiatives.
  • A builder mindset with demonstrated success developing teams and scaling accounting functions.
  • Comfort working in global environments and partnering across time zones and cultures.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Competitive compensation package aligned with scope, impact, and leadership expectations.
  • Meaningful opportunity to help shape the evolution of the finance and accounting organization during a period of change and growth.
  • Hybrid work approach that balances in‑person collaboration with flexibility.
  • Broad benefits offering designed to support health, wellbeing, and long‑term stability.
  • Strong long‑term growth potential as the organization and accounting function continue to expand.
