Category Manager
The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies across domestic packaging categories for a growing distribution company in Elgin. This role partners closely with sourcing, suppliers, and senior leadership to drive cost savings, supplier performance, and process improvements while managing high‑SKU environments. This is a fully onsite position.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for all domestic packaging categories in partnership with the Sourcing Specialist
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, holding suppliers accountable to performance and quality expectations
- Oversee and lead a team of direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance procurement efficiency based on spend analysis, supply market dynamics, category intelligence, and business needs
- Establish and achieve annual savings goals in alignment with the VP of Procurement
- Manage sourcing activities including strategy development, RFPs, and contracting
- Analyze market indices and trends to inform purchasing and category decisions
Qualifications
- Category management or strategic sourcing experience within a distribution or manufacturing environment
- Required experience with corrugated box packaging
- Experience managing high SKU counts
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive sourcing strategy execution
- Strong analytical and supplier management skills
- Comfortable working in a 100% onsite environment
Salary Range: $100,000–$125,000
