POSITION TITLE: Senior Archivist / Records Manager II
Location: FTA Headquarters (U.S. D.OT.) - 1200 New Jersey Ave. SE, Washington D.C.

SALARY RATE: $34.50/hr. to $42.46/hr. plus optional $4.98 Health & Welfare Stipend
Start Date: October 2026
Period of Performance: 18 months (6 Month base 12 month option)
SUMMARY: Serves as the on-site archival professional and single point of contact to the FTA Contracting Officer's Representative, with end-to-end responsibility for the Bob McManus collection from accession through public access. Leads inventory, appraisal, preservation, digitization, description, and publication of FTA's historical holdings, and produces the original historical content that makes the collection usable to FTA staff, transit stakeholders, and the public.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct 100 percent box, folder, and item-level inventory and condition assessment of the 15-box McManus collection; adjudicate the "questionable" items and recommend permanent-collection disposition to the Government.
- Apply archival preservation, storage, and conservation techniques, including rehousing into archival-quality enclosures and treatment of oversize and fragile material; manage the digital photo files provided by the McManus family.
- Digitize photographs, maps, and documents to NARA and FADGI standards; produce preservation and access derivatives with OCR; prepare indexes, meta-tags, and item descriptions; ingest to the FTA History Hub and other FTA/DOT systems.
- Produce a DACS-compliant finding aid and support researcher and public inquiries, presentations, and digital exhibits.
- Conduct original research in the McManus meeting notebooks and author articles, web posts, displays, and presentations on FTA history for publication on FTA platforms.
- Serve as on-site Lead: single COR point of contact, weekly status summaries, monthly metrics, quarterly briefings, and the kickoff Project Plan.
- Provide second-person verification on all records disposition and destruction decisions made by Position 2.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree ( or High School plus 4 years is equivalent)
- 5 to 10 years of professional archival, museum collections, or historical records experience.
- Demonstrated arrangement and description to recognized professional standards. (DACS or equivalent)
- Hands-on digitization experience including capture standards, metadata schemas, and content or digital asset management systems.
- Demonstrated written product: published articles, finding aids, exhibit content, or comparable.
- Eligible for U.S. federal facility access and suitability determination.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's in Library and Information Science, Archival Studies, Public History, or History.
- Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA); Certified Records Manager (CRM); NARA Certificate of Federal Records Management Training.
- Prior federal agency history program, heritage asset, or museum collection experience.
- Section 508 accessibility remediation experience.
- Transportation, infrastructure, or urban policy subject familiarity.
