The ideal candidate has extensive experience with electrical power systems, field data collection, and translating real-world conditions into accurate AutoCAD drawings.
CAD Technician Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for electrical power and control systems.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
- Design and document instrumentation loops, cable tray layouts, and associated electrical details.
- Generate and update cable schedules, panel schedules, and related documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Electrical Engineers to translate engineering concepts into precise technical drawings.
- Ensure all drawings comply with applicable electrical codes, company standards, and industry best practices.
- Conduct on site field visits to gather measurements, verify existing installations, and collect data needed for new or updated designs.
- Document field conditions thoroughly (measurements, equipment labeling, routing information, site photos) and translate findings into updated engineering drawings.
- Interface with plant personnel when needed to clarify equipment access, layouts, and existing electrical infrastructure.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems.
- Perform sizing and selection of circuit breakers and other protective devices as required for design packages.
- Read, interpret, and update one line diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment lists.
CAD Technician Qualifications & Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 7 years of CAD design/drafting experience, with a strong background in electrical power and control system design.
- Expert-level in AutoCAD (required); strong ability to create and modify complex electrical drawings.
- Solid understanding of electrical design principles, instrumentation, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience creating electrical schematics, control wiring diagrams, cable tray layouts, and instrumentation loop drawings.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and well-documented designs.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, technical drawings, and project requirements.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering and project teams.
- Willingness to travel regionally.
- Valid driver’s license (driving limited to occasional field visits using company fleet vehicles).
