Role: Senior Project Accountant – Construction
Location: NYC Metro Area (On-Site)
Compensation: $80,000 – $120,000 Benefits
The Opportunity
A well-established and highly regarded construction management and general contracting firm in the NYC market is seeking a Project Accountant II to join its growing finance team, reporting directly to the Controller.
With a strong track record delivering complex, large-scale projects, the firm combines operational excellence with a collaborative, hands-on culture. This is a high-impact role offering exposure to sophisticated projects and close interaction with both finance leadership and project teams.
Ideal for an experienced project accountant looking to take ownership of multiple projects while contributing to financial reporting, forecasting, and process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full project accounting lifecycle across multiple construction projects
- Maintain and analyze general ledger activity, subsidiary ledgers, and financial reporting
- Interpret contract financials to ensure accurate project setup and reporting
- Prepare detailed project reports for internal stakeholders, ownership, and external partners
- Monitor budget vs. actuals, identify variances, and provide actionable insights
- Review general conditions and cost reports for ongoing and quarterly analysis
- Reconcile project costs and correctly classify billing deferrals
- Develop and forecast project cash flow and revenue, resolving discrepancies as needed
- Analyze revenue and expenses across the full project lifecycle
- Review trade billing structures and support project teams with financial guidance
- Lead or assist with project and subcontractor closeouts
- Identify opportunities to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency
- Mentor junior accounting staff and support team development
- Operate independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 6–9 years of accounting/finance experience, with strong construction/project accounting exposure
- Advanced Excel skills (certification a plus)
- Experience with Sage Intacct and/or Procore preferred
- Strong knowledge of job costing, revenue recognition, and project financials
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to work independently with leadership capability
