About the Opportunity
A dynamic and growing real estate development company is seeking a skilled Project Accountant to manage the financial operations of its active development portfolio. This is a full-time, in-office role offering the chance to work closely with senior management and project teams to ensure accurate reporting and sound financial management across multiple projects, with a clear progression path to more senior roles.
This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with a strong foundation in real estate development accounting, including construction draws, month-end close, and GAAP compliance.
The Role
As Project Accountant, you will oversee project-level accounting and financial reporting, partnering with development managers, vendors, and leadership to maintain accurate books, manage budgets, and provide insight into project performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute month-end and year-end closings, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Track and manage project costs across construction, land acquisition, and development expenses.
- Review, code, and process vendor invoices; manage payments and resolve discrepancies.
- Consolidate and reconcile internal and external financial ledgers for accurate reporting.
- Monitor project cash flows, ensuring adequate liquidity for ongoing development.
- Perform financial analysis to assess project profitability and investment performance.
- Support external audits and coordinate with auditors on project-related financial data.
- Maintain organized financial records and assist with ad hoc analysis as needed.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, including construction based real estate development and public accounting exposure.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate-specific accounting principles.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with Yardi preferred.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
Desirable
- CPA or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience in construction or real estate development accounting.
- Familiarity with integrated property management or development accounting systems.
