Assistant Controller – Manufacturing

Location: Middletown, CT (On-Site)

Salary: $125,000 – $140,000

About the Role

A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support and oversee day-to-day accounting operations at its Middletown, CT facility. This is a hands-on leadership role within a growing finance team, offering exposure across payroll, AP, month-end close, and operational accounting functions.

The position will work closely with senior leadership while managing a small accounting team and helping drive process improvements, reporting enhancements, and operational efficiencies across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing daily accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger activities
• Manage and mentor a team across accounting and payroll functions
• Support month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting processes
• Review payroll activity for a multi-frequency employee population across the U.S.
• Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, internal controls, and accounting policies
• Partner with HR, operations, and leadership teams on financial and operational matters
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and workflow efficiencies
• Support ERP and systems-related initiatives, reporting projects, and ad hoc analysis

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 7 years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment
• Prior leadership experience managing accounting or payroll staff
• Strong understanding of month-end close, payroll operations, and AP processes
• Experience with ERP systems and payroll platforms such as ADP preferred
• Hands-on approach with strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
