Filer Intermediate School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Services Paraprofessional. This full-time position involves supporting students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive educational environment. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, specialists, and students to facilitate academic success and promote social-emotional growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts and skills.
- Support students in their daily activities, including transitions between classes, lunch, and recess.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting observations to teachers and specialists.
- Collaborate with educational staff to adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and teamwork.
- Assist with classroom management and promote positive behavior among students.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in education, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to adapt to various learning styles and provide individualized support.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
- Ability to pass background checks and comply with school district policies.
- First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
