Responsibilities
- Assist special education teachers in the implementation of IEPs and instructional plans for students with disabilities.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, ensuring they understand and engage with the curriculum.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and development, reporting any concerns to the supervising teacher or special education staff.
- Support students in developing social skills, independence, and self-advocacy.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to create a cohesive support system for students.
- Help maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
- Uphold school policies and procedures while promoting a positive and respectful school culture.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in special education or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with students with special needs, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support students in their learning journey.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing situations in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with IEP processes and special education laws is a plus.
- Must pass background checks and any required assessments prior to employment.
