Job Summary
The Floor Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of facility flooring. This role performs a variety of floor care tasks, including cleaning, polishing, waxing, buffing, and stripping, across different types of floor surfaces. This position requires attention to detail and adherence to safety procedures to ensure work is completed effectively and in accordance with company standards. The Floor Technician plays an important role in supporting a clean, safe, and professional environment for building occupants.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of various floor surfaces, including tile, hardwood, carpet, and vinyl, using appropriate equipment and cleaning agents.
• Apply floor finishes, waxes, and sealants to protect and enhance floor appearance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
• Perform floor stripping and buffing as required.
• Inspect floors regularly to identify areas requiring repair or special attention; report damage or safety hazards to management.
• Operate and maintain floor care equipment, including buffers, scrubbers, and extractors, ensuring proper working condition.
• Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe work environment.
• Assist with custodial duties as needed based on operational demands.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Previous experience in floor care or janitorial services required.
• Ability to safely operate floor care equipment.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and proper usage.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards is preferred.
• Experience in commercial or business service environments is a plus.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and management.
• Basic troubleshooting skills for minor equipment issues preferred.
• Floor care or maintenance certification is a plus.
• Valid driver's license required. This position may be required to operate company vehicles or travel between locations as needed to complete assigned floor care work.
• Attendance is a requirement to be successful in this position.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions and operate floor care equipment for extended periods.
Work Environment and Schedule
Work is performed in a variety of settings and may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, equipment, and varying conditions. The role requires regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting, along with the use of floor care machinery and tools. This position is primarily scheduled for nighttime hours. Weekend work may be required based on operational needs.
