Under the direction of the Lead Permit Services Technician, the Permit Services Technician performs administrative duties in support of Building Division permitting functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides excellent customer service as initial representative and liaison for the Building Division at the Division counter and via telephone
- Receives and reviews permit applications and accompanying data, ensures applications and supporting documentation are complete, and that applications adhere to Building Department policies and procedures
- Processes building, plumbing, electric, mechanical, fire safety, amendments and location sign permits and any other forms as needed for the Building Department and calculates and collects related fees, issues receipts and accounts for funds received
- Provides information to the public regarding permits and the calculation and collection of fees
- Responds to permit inquiries and general questions from the public
- Types correspondence, answers phones and conducts file maintenance on all files related to the Building Division
- Recaptures and reproduces records upon request
- Keeps daily records as needed for various internal and external contacts e.g., auditor, Property Appraiser, Health Department and utility companies
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of two years of administrative experience in a customer service environment
- Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Valid Florida Driver's License with clean driving record

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
Frequently moves about the office to assess files, personnel and office machinery.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
Must be able to perceive, inspect and assess application information for completeness and regulations and requirements for compliance.
This position frequently communicates with the public, other staff and supervisors regarding applications and regulations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Frequently files applications and other departmental resources weighing up to 25 pounds.
The position operates in an indoor, office environment, subjecting the employee to possible exposure to dust.
