Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting Road Superintendent, supervising, and coordinating work crews and equipment for work on streets and drainage within their assigned area.
  • Plans and organizes assigned work by evaluating conditions to determine which tasks should be performed in what order, and what materials or information is needed.
  • Inspects and follows up on assigned projects to ensure proper conduct of work and progress according to established schedulesEnsure the Road Superintendent and Deputy Director are kept abreast of job progress at all times.
  • Receives and follows up on resident complaints received involving Streets and Drainage Division operations.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems and assists other supervisors in solving work problems.
  • Ensures County policy and safety regulations are followed at all times.
  • Train personnel on current Public Works practices/methods and provide training to employees in the proper use of equipment.
  • Fills in for Road Superintendent during their absence.
  • Responds to emergency and after-hours calls on nights and weekends as required.
  • Updates work order data in services platform in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Florida driver's license with clean driving record.
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in road construction or maintenance, with at least One year of supervisory experience over work crews.
  • Valid Florida Class B Commercial License (Preferred)
  • Have knowledge of operating a computer and basic knowledge of Outlook for emails and schedules.
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Supplemental Information

Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employee's, and the general public.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Provide excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County Departments. Personal contact occurs with other employees of the department, employees of other departments in the County, citizens, and customers of the department.

Able to use various computer software applications, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, and other general office equipment.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull otherwise move objects, including the human body.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside and inclement weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes, dust or other airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
